The new Star Wars: Battlefront is a safe bet for publisher, Electronic Arts. It’s Star Wars, it’s Battlefield, and it’s the long overdue continuation of an already successful franchise. Unfortunately, both gamers and fans have to wait just a little bit longer to get their hands on the title, since EA has officially announced that we can expect the title in Holiday of 2015.
This news comes on the heels of a confirmation that Battlefront will be a first-person shooter, much like the Battlefield series the game is modelled after. This was something I could only speculate on since the original franchise, which we haven’t really seen on consoles since 2005, was a third-person shooter by default. An EA executive said during a recent investor meeting that this decision will “allow us to have a major first-person shooter title each year.”
The new Star Wars: Battlefront certainly appears to be coming together nicely. Most of what I’ve seen at this point has been early, in-engine footage but if the final product is even a fraction as pretty, we can look forward to a Star Wars game that looks and feels like the original trilogy. There even seems to be some effort present to visually replicate the trilogy’s practical effects in the game. Yes, I realize that CGI practical effects are an inherently silly concept, but from what I’ve seen so far, it actually looks pretty cool.
So, after 10 years and a cancelled game, Battlefront is finally coming back. What do you want to see in the finished product?
